The Get Focused Day

One day to refocus and revitalise your business. One day to help turn your ideas into reality.

If you could gain knowledge, clarity, confidence and inspiration in just one day, what difference would this make to you and your business? What would it feel like to stand back for a day, away from the hustle and bustle, to take stock of where you are and where you want to go?

This one day consultation gives you 5.5 hours of one-on-one advice and practical guidance from a marketing professional who understands the pleasures and pains of a small business. You can book it for a time that suits you. And you'll be concentrating solely on your own business.

Do you have time to promote and grow your business?

When setting up or managing your business, it's all too easy to get caught up in running the operational side and doing the creative stuff and not pay enough attention to building a customer base that's going to give the results (sales and income) that you want in the future.

Your own Marketing plan

The Get Focused consultation turns marketing planning into a firmly practical tool that you will use week in, week out to manage your business. It covers those aspects of marketing that we get asked about most, by people just starting up and those that have been in business for some time. We'll take you through the basic framework, using your own experiences to help you build a clear picture of where you are going and what you need to do to get there.

The day will challenge you to see how you can improve your marketing approach and, if you do things differently, what the impact might be for your business. At the end, not only should you have added a bit of sparkle, but also created a definite action plan - a mixture of ideas and tools that you will want to take forward because you can see exactly how they will work for you.

Can you benefit from the “Get Focused” day?

Our “Get Focused” consultations are designed especially for solo business people, independent consultants and practitioners, and owners of very small businesses - both new start ups and people who have been doing it for time but feel they need to make changes. You could be making or producing something, or offering a service - to other businesses or the public.

If you are still just thinking about starting your business, then this day will help you evaluate your idea, work out where to start, and get you headed in the right direction.

What will we cover on the day?

1. Your vision, your passion - linked to your income

What do you see yourself doing next month, next year, in 10 years time? How are you doing it and who are you doing it with? What does it feel like? Whatever the vision, you cannot afford to forget that your business dream needs to deliver the cash.

We start with a reality check on how your financials stack up. After all, in order to work out how much marketing to do, you need to know what you need to achieve in money terms. What's your financial goal for the next 12 months? The next 10 years?

2. What do you really do and who do you do it for?

This is the bit where marketing speak talks about "identifying your market" or "market segments". You need to be crystal clear about what you do in relation to the needs that your customers or clients have. This means you need to sell the benefits of what you do, not just what you do. What's in it for them? And often, it's not what you do, it's the way that you do it that sets you apart from the crowd.

When starting out, it's easy to think that if you spread your net as wide as possible, you stand a better chance of catching customers. Not so. There's a good chance you just end up exhausting your resources (time and money) and yourself and all you have to show for it is an audience that's not quite sure exactly what you do or whether they are the person you actually do it for. How likely are they to be beating a path to your door?

3. Designing your own marketing process

Once you have worked out exactly who you are targeting and what you are offering them, you then need to work out how you are going to convert complete strangers into paying customers. It's not enough to think that if you just make people aware of what you do, they will somehow magically end up buying from you.

So, what you need is a process, a framework for turning "suspects" into "prospects" into "customers" - and then into customers who sing your praises and tell everyone they know about you and how great you are.

Without a framework, it can all be a bit haphazard. With a framework (and knowing what you really do and who you do it for), you can work out how you are going to move people through your marketing pipeline and create a stream of people, all clamouring to give you their cash.

4. What marketing activities will you use?

The good news is that, having worked through steps 1 - 3, you’ll be well placed to answer this question. In fact the mistake that a lot of people make is to leap right into step 4 without spending time working on steps 1 – 3.

And here’s the main thing. Sales and marketing doesn’t have to be a slog. And you don’t have to scare yourself half to death doing things you feel really uncomfortable about. There are many things you can do that will work with your marketing process, so choose the ones that you enjoy doing.

But there is a catch. Each and every bit of marketing you do (giving out leaflets, placing an advert, writing a press release, going to a networking event) needs to have a specific and measurable role in moving your suspect/prospect/customer through your marketing pipeline. You need to know exactly what that marketing activity is there to do and how well it is doing it.

5. Pulling it all together

At the end of the day, you’ll have all the building blocks necessary to create the foundations upon which your business can flourish. You will have the basis of a marketing plan that will really work for you. And because it will work for you, you’ll naturally find that you are putting time aside to keep on developing it to make it work even better, using feedback from your own experiences and contact with customers as you move forward.

Where and how do we do it?

Experience the Get Focused consultation in one refreshing but hard working and hard thinking day in the peaceful Cotswolds countryside, or at your place or other suitable location. Some locations may attract an additional fee.

Before the consultation day, we have a telephone preparation session to help us understand exactly what you want to get out of the day and we then tailor the content accordingly, concentrating on the areas you need help with most.

Afterwards, if you have taken an action to write up a marketing plan from the day’s output, then we will critique this for you and give you feedback – all as part of your fee.

You may want to take some additional coaching and mentoring sessions, but, if not, you still get free email support for up to 3 months so you can ask those pesky questions that crop up afterwards!

What does it cost?

The Get Focused Day gives you 5.5 hours of one-on-one advice and guidance, focusing solely on your business and how best to market it.

All this for just £450 (plus VAT).

Money back guarantee

And don't forget we offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation to make sure this day is right for you and we offer a 100% money back guarantee. That means we will refund your fee if you don't absolutely, 100% feel you have benefited from the day - you know more at the end than at the beginning, have the confidence to take things forward and have generally achieved your objectives in working with us. Fair enough? No one has in fact ever asked us to do this, but you have our word - no quibbles.
