Books

Here are some of our favourite books to help anyone who runs their own business - a mixture of personal development, business skills, and marketing know-how.

“Living Your Best Life” and “Now What?” by Laura Berman Fortgang

Laura is internationally recognised as a pioneer in the personal coaching field and her books reflect her refreshing, no nonsense approach and style. If you want to take stock of where you are in your personal and business life, these two books help you assess where you are, where you want to go, and how to get there.

“Change Your Life in 7 Days” and “Instant Confidence” by Paul McKenna

If you only know him from TV, it’s well worth delving a little deeper into Paul’s work which is based on a technique called Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). He gives a fascinating insight into the workings of our most powerful tool, our own brain, and shows how to put his techniques to work to overcome our fears and achieve what we want to in everyday life.

“Free Agent Manual: The Rules and Tools for Your Solo Success” by Josephine Monroe

A “how to” book with a difference that shows you how to thrive and earn money the way you want to. With an engaging and straightforward style, Josephine lays out the rules and tools for becoming a “free agent”, someone who exchanges time, talent, and energy for money or other opportunities like contacts or skills.

“The E Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work And What To Do About It” by Michael Gerber

The “E” in this case stands for “Entrepreneur” and this book sets out the blueprint for building a successful business as opposed to just getting yourself a flexible job that will grind you into the ground. He says that you know you have a real business when you can go away for a year and return to find it more profitable than when you left it.

“Grow Your Own Networks” by Jo Parfitt and Jacqui Tillyard

A hands-on guide to help you get the most out of networking based around “20 tips to make you think and 20 tasks to make you work”! Jo and Jacqui say they “work hard at building the kind of relationships that build business” and in this book they show you how you can too.

Also buy through Jacqui’s shop at www.jacquitillyard.co.uk
Or through Jo’s publishing web site www.thebookcooks.com

“Attraction Marketing” by Annie Meachem

If you’ve heard about the Law of Attraction and want to put it to work to maximise your business potential, then Annie’s book is a very good place to start. She shows you how to combine proven marketing approaches with 30 practical Law of Attraction principles to “attract all the perfect clients you want”.
